Why our company would be nothing without women...

March 8, 2022

For International Women's Day (IWD) 2022, we thought it was only right to interview the women of 1-Fix to show you why we would be nothing without them. We also asked the Managing Director, Craig his thoughts on what it means to have so many women working in such a male-dominated industry.

Lee - Client Manager

To start off, what do you do at 1-Fix?

My job role as the client manager involves building relationships with each of our clients and helping them get the most out of their IT support. I also handle a lot of the accounts and assist Craig with quotes.

So without your role, what would happen to the company?

Without my role at 1-Fix, we would not be known for our excellent customer service and our clients would be left in-the-dark and unsatisfied. I always receive great feedback after my client review meetings saying how they appreciate the effort we go to in order to make them happy.

Why is it important to celebrate IWD?

I think it is important to celebrate IWD because it recognises women's achievements throughout history and acknowledges their importance.

Bonnie - Operations Manager

What does your role involve day-to-day?

My role involves managing the techs and Jess, and on a day to day basis I assign the tickets and ensure that the techs are working within SLA's so that everyone is happy and working well.

If you didn’t do all that, what would happen?

Part of my role is to ensure that the team are motivated and they are then in turn offering a great service to our customers. Without my role in the business, customers wouldn’t receive the level of care and support that our technicians give them.

What does IWD mean to you?

It's important as it recognises the importance of women in all work places. It inspires young ladies to aim high and achieve their goals.

Jess - Sales and Marketing Administrator

What do you do at 1-Fix?

At 1-Fix, I handle a lot of the marketing and social media, answer incoming calls from our clients and assist Lee on our accounts tasks. I also help with the day-to-day running of the office, including persuading Craig to buy us pancakes and lunches ;).

What does that mean for 1-Fix?

Well, without my role at 1-Fix, customers would not be able to keep up-to-date with what we’re up to and would lose out on seeing our office dogs on Instagram, which is a big loss if you ask me. I also help get our name out there and attract new customers through our social media efforts.

Why is IWD important to you?

IWD is important to me because it helps to educate people on the struggles women face just because of their gender, and how without us the world would not be what it is today.

Janet - Business Development Manager

What happens if you weren’t doing your role?

My job is important as I begin the development and nurturing of people who have or may subsequently have a need for IT Support Services. The process is to gain 'like and trust' both for myself and also the company, by networking, doing exhibitions, brunch and learn sessions, and utilising other platforms such as LinkedIn and other social media to get our name into the public domain.

How did you celebrate IWD?

For IWD I did a worldwide networking event to celebrate with Athena Connect recently, and have been invited to IOD Pall Mall for an inaugural event of 'Women Leading Sustainability' to mark IWD - an evening of talks, networking, a catwalk show and canapes and fizz by Searceys.

Why is IWD so important to you?

IWD is important as it highlights the great job that women do in all types of business and is a celebration of how far women have come.

Craig - Managing Director

Why is having women in the workplace important as an employer?

I feel it's very important for the workplace to be made up of a representative spread of the population, regardless of sex, age, sexuality or skin tone. Although 1-Fix is a small team, we have a good split of male and female colleagues and I feel this creates a much more balanced workplace and makes our company a great place to work. It would, however, be great to have a few female technicians in the team!

Why do you think it is important to have women in tech?

The technology sector, specifically IT & tech support, is a great leveller as anyone can be successful with the right skills and mindset. Nothing we do is any easier or harder if you are a male or female, so the only barrier to entry is your own ability. Unfortunately decades of gender-biased careers guidance and teaching has naturally enforced a stereotype that IT is a male profession (and typically geeky) - but nothing could be further from the truth. Thankfully in recent years there has been a much greater drive towards STEM based teaching and careers for all sexes, which should help us see more female candidates applying for job openings in future years.
