What is Microsoft Copilot?

Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant built into Microsoft 365. It works across your email, documents, meetings and chat, so it can draft, summarise and find things using your organisation's own content rather than general knowledge from the internet.

Is our data safe if we use Copilot?

Your data stays within your Microsoft 365 environment and is not used to train public AI models. The real risk is different from the one people usually ask about. Copilot can surface anything a user already has permission to see, so if your file permissions have drifted over the years, it will find things quickly that nobody realised were accessible.

What do we need to do before rolling out Copilot?

Review your permissions and your data. Most organisations have accumulated oversharing in SharePoint and Teams over several years, and that is invisible until something starts searching across all of it.
